Immerse yourself --- literally --- deep down in the sea and discover its surprises --- anemones, starfish, crabs, lobsters and sea slugs! Zuid-Beveland and Tholen are known for their prime diving opportunities! Dive centers are located in Kattendijke and Wemeldinge, among others.
The waters of Zuid-Beveland and Tholen are the place to be for flatfish, plaice, dab, eel, bass, mackerel, gar, and so on and so forth. There is a handicapped-accessible offshore fishing dock at Stavenisse.

Sport fishing is regulated here as well as elsewhere. The town hall and the VVV tourist information offices provide information on the necessary permits.

Lake Veere is a superb water sports area for anglers, sailing enthusiasts, divers, snorkelers and water-skiers --- and, is also much-loved by surfers! You can park your car close to the water, so all your gear is at hand. The shallow water makes it a great place for beginners.
The Oosterschelde offers more of a challenge for the advanced surfer --- currents and rough water make it too dangerous for beginners. An exception is the surfing area along the Oester dam --- here beginners as well as experienced surfers can find great surfing.

The ‘Speelmansplaten’ day recreation area is by the Oester dam. It’s popular with families, day-trippers, water sports enthusiasts, groups, and visitors of the outdoor events held there.
Zeeland has a phenomenal coast with beautiful, expansive wide beaches --- though you won’t find them on Zuid-Beveland and Tholen. What you will find here are cozy little beaches --- ones where you’re sometimes lucky if they don’t disappear completely during high tide!

For a great day out, try following the coastline and searching for these undiscovered little pearls. Here’s a little tip…investigate the coast near Baarland, Yerseke, Wemeldine, Kattendijke, Wolphaartsdijk, Gorishoek or St. Annaland. You’ll be surprised!
Wind in your hair, salt water splashing on your face --- the sea gives you all the room you need to enjoy yourself! But don’t forget to take a voyage back into the nautical past, too. Fleets of freighters and fishing boats once sailed the waters of Zuid-Beveland. Luckily, a number of these vessels have been preserved for the generations to come. The ‘Zeeuwse Klipper Avontuur’ foundation offers day sails on its clippers as well as longer excursions. Speed-loving sail fanatics can brave the waves in a genuine racing yacht with ‘Enjoy Sailing’ --- and, though no experience is required, you’re expected to lend a hand! Water-skiing is permitted on the Westerschelde outside of the main shipping channels. It is not allowed on the Oosterschelde. Lake Veere has reserved two marked courses for use by speedboats and water-skiers --- there you can really step on the gas! Canoes can be hired at the ‘De Piet’ day recreation area. They’re ideal for setting out and exploring the creeks round Lake Veere. Banana boats, jet skis, pedal boats, etc., are available at ‘De Speelmansplaten’ recreation area.
