It is as handy as it is simple. At an intersection where two or more cycle paths join there is a signpost. Each sign post has a number; with the help of these numbers you can plan your route. You just have to note down the numbers, the explanations on the boards tell you the rest. In Zeeland the net work has its own name: FIKS. With the use of this system you can crisscross the province
The paths have been carefully selected on the basis of various criteria; attractiveness of the landscape, safety of the paths and availability of facilities on the route.
The cycle is the perfect mode of transport on which to explore the many lovely places that Zeeland is rich in. The Zeeuwse nature is very changeable and so it delivers very quickly alternating scenes on the cycle routes. If you would rather use one of the mapped routes, then you have a choice of one of the five theme routes available. The Blossom & Fruit route in Zuid-Beveland for example. This is a beautiful route along peaceful country lanes past rustic villages and orchards. Discover it in the spring when the blossom is out. Enjoy the greens of the summer or the harvest time of autumn. You see many home made signs for local produce. Fruit and potatoes are available from the farms, some farms even have little shops where you can purchase home made jams etc. Cycle along to the cheese farm, ice farm, or vineyard (winery).Within a few kilometres all tastes are catered for.
