In Zeeland the coast is never far away, that’s because there is almost 650 kilometers of coastline by the sea and inlets. Along the unspoilt coastline are lovely wide beaches, divided by the old Zeeuwse wooden breakwaters, the steady rhythm of the sea is sometimes the only sound.
The coast of Zeeland is unspoilt. The only “highrise” you will find are the dunes that design the beaches and act as a buffer against the sea.
The Zeeland beaches differ in every area. But one thing they all have in common, they have for years been the cleanest in The Netherlands and have more hours of sunshine.
The coast of Zeeland has something to offer everyone of all ages. In each season you can wander along the shoreline. If you love nature, there are fantastic walks among the dunes to see special plants and birds.
Collecting shells and building lovely sandcastles, that’s what we all do. But the beach has so much more to offer, for example hunting for fossilized sharks teeth at Cadzand. They are millions of years old and are just lying there. Look out: these teeth are no longer white but entirely black.
Are you a lover of extreme sports? In Zeeland there are special beaches where you can enjoy kitesurfing, beachsurfing and stunt flying.
But you can also hire a romantic beachhouse and spend the night under the stars with an open fire and the gentle sound of the waves. Naturally there are plenty of beach pavilions where you can enjoy a bag of chips or a delicious three course meal.
Safety is on our beaches the most important thing, especially in the busy summer season. For every category of beach there are strict rules. These are displayed at all entrances to the beaches. The life guards watch over all beaches. On the family beaches orientation poles are placed so that children can find there towels and parents at busy times.
