Guided tour of a mussel company and the oyster ponds – Yerseke
Yerseke is the center of mussel and oyster farming. During the mussel season, from mid-July to early April, boats full of mussels are off-loaded in the port of Yerseke. The mussels are sold via auction to mussel companies where they are readied for sale. Oysters are traded in Yerseke almost the whole year long. The oyster ponds, which date from just after 1870, are where the oysters destined for market are stored.
