Along the shores of the Oosterschelde a lot of landscaping has been done. Especially the south coast of Schouwen-Duiveland a lot of work has been done using the ‘Tureluur’ plan. Of the 1100 hectare, 900 hectare has been planed. Time to go on your route, to cycle past this beautiful shoreline. Cycling over the bird boulevard of Zeeland with the wind through your hair!
Nice to know:
New nature, such as the ‘Tureluur’ plan is definitely needed. The flood barrier has had an adverse affect on the nature of the Oosterschelde. The strong currents of the past has cut deep gullies in the Oosterschelde. Since the dam was built the currents are weaker. Because of this the gullies are being filled in by sand. This ‘sandhunger’ is at the cost of the mud flats, sandbanks and the outer dike growth. For the birds, the mud flats and sandbanks, which only fall dry at low tide, are essential.
