General
The marked hiker routes of Staatsbosbeheer lead you pass the loveliest places in the nature area of Schotsman along the Veerse Meer. After completing the last dam (round 1961) a large mudflat with here and there some dune forming turned into in a nature area. On the dry, sandy ground there is an abundant of purple and blue orchids in the spring. In the wetter areas other kinds of flowers grow and many of birds breed here in the shrubbery and open areas.
Staatsbosbeheer has developed the following walking-hiking routes:
Yellow route (3km). Start: Barn Staatsbosbeheer, Campingsweg in Kamperland. Over well worn paths through the forest. You will see dry grass lands with special flora. Here and there a shrubbery. View of the Veerse Meer and the town of Veere.
Green route (6km). Start: Northern car park, Schotsmanweg in Kamperland. This walk will not always be on well worn paths but you will see all the interesting spots of the Schotsman. In the dunes Scottish Highland cattle graze.
This route is on map 29( Walcheren)of Staatsbosbeheer.
