Authentic village
General
Kapelle is in the green heart of Zuid-Beveland. Its nickname 'the blossom of Zeeland' gives us an idea of just how lovely Kapelle is: with its vast orchards full of fruit trees that blanket the surrounding area in pink and white blossoms each year round April and May. The best way to enjoy the blossoms round Kapelle is by going for a stroll or a bike ride. Explore the fruit museum on the Biezelingseweg and learn all about fruit growing. The museum shop sells local products and it has an all-weather terrace where you can sample fresh apple juice. Kapelle is also home to the only fruit auction in Zeeland. A handsome Gothic church with its striking brick spire dominates the center.
The well-known and much-loved author Annie M.G. Schmidt was born in the former parsonage. Another of its well-known citizens is the former Dutch Prime Minister, J.P. Balkenende.
