With the closure of the Veerse Gat in 1961 the Veerse Meer was closed off. It was the first step in a long line of closures and defences in the struggle against the sea. These days the Veerse Meer is a fantastic region for water sports, hikers and cyclists.
This cycle and hike route goes around the Veerse Meer. In the summer hikers and cyclists can make use of two tourist ferry services: between Veere and Kamperland and between Kortgene and Wolphaartsdijk. You can choose which way to go round.
If you go round the Veerse Meer this is an anti clockwise routed direction. At several points the route joins up with other sign posted routes.
