Ode to Vlissingen
I don't say it often enough, but I love you! You've been part of my life for as long as I can remember. You were my childhood sweetheart. I left when I turned eighteen because I needed to see what the wider world had to offer. Even though I was away for ten years, we stayed in touch. I flitted from place to place and thought I'd found love somewhere else. But I came back because I couldn't forget you.
Some people don't understand what I see in you. And I get that. You don't have much money, and you're not exactly beautiful. More than that, you're no goodie two shoes, but that's exactly what makes you so attractive. When I kiss you and feel the salt on your lips, I'm lost.
It would be too much to say I'll never leave you again. I don't believe in marriage. But, even if I should feel the urge to expand my horizons, I will return one day…because you are, and always will be my great love.
