Bruinisse, or simply ‘Bru’, is Schouwen-Duiveland’s premier fishing village. Its large yield of mussels and the fishing boats bear witness to this. Added to this are the many restaurants which dish up delicious mussels during the season. Discover Bruinisse’s rich past and its mussels in the Brusea museum. The museum consists of the Visserijmuseum itself and the Vissersuusje (fisherman’s cottage).

Bruinisse is in the Nationaal Park Oosterschelde, as well as on the Grevelingenmeer. Both these areas are home to many special flora and fauna. Watersnoodmuseum
Close to Bruinisse is the Watersnoodmuseum, dedicated to the North Sea Flood of 1953. It’s a place which tells water-related stories. You can learn about the great flood of 1953, the post-flood recovery, the Delta Works and water safety. Definitely worth a visit!
Fishery Days
The opening of the mussel season is marked by the annual Fishery Days, when the whole village comes out to celebrate mussels. There are all kinds of things to see and do. For example, a street market, a fun fair, musical performances and lots of other amusement.
