Zeeuws-Vlaanderen has many special cultural sights and dozens of galleries: splendid historical buildings, churches and windmills in the picture perfect towns and villages, some of which are still lovingly maintained and even operational at certain times. It is fascinating to see how grain is turned into flour, and you can often buy an oven fresh loaf too.

The diversity of churches in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen may surprise you as well. The Willibrordus Church in Hulst was proclaimed “Most beautiful church of the Netherlands” in 2009. In addition you will find the Saint Bavo Church in Aardenburg. This is the only church in the Netherlands built in the “Schelde” Gothic style, with its fine woodcarvings and a basilica with a prominent tower that you can climb.

You will find them at the most unexpected places, on polder roads, at junctions like the small chapels built in honour of the Virgin Mary. The ‘Kapelletjesroute ‘ (The Chapel Tour) takes you to a number of the religious buildings in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, many of which are tributes to a silent devotion.
