What is there to see and do at the Monnikenwerve Ostrich Farm?
Well, what started out as a hobby when the farm opened in 1997, has now developed into an unmissable attraction and a household name in the region. There is a lot to see and experience, from hatcheries to eggs and all sorts and sizes of ostriches from chicks to large brooding birds. You can learn all about this large flightless bird during a guided tour including facts like how much an adult ostrich can weigh (up to 150 kilo), or a new-born chick (around 1 kilo) and an ostrich egg (about 1.5kilos)! Ostrich eggs are the largest eggs in the world and an ostrich is vegetarian, feeding on grain, maize, potatoes and grass! What about the fact that the males have black feathers whilst the females have grey! Did you know all that? Well come on over to find out more!

The farm has a tearoom with a view overlooking the ostriches in the fields, which is a great place to sit down and relax with a drink or something to eat. In the summer, you can sit outside on the large patio and enjoy the sun, overlooking the polder landscape.

In the shop, you can buy all sorts of ostrich products including delicious, healthy ostrich meat. There are also a wide variety of products on display like beautiful ostrich leather goods, cosmetics based on ostrich oil or a tasty liqueur made from fresh eggs. Information about the farm, ostrich eggs, cuddly toys and feathers complete the shop’s collection.

The farm is also accessible for elderly and people with special needs. There is sufficient parking for both cars and coaches and dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.
