Galleries in Zeeland
Our varied art forms are a sublime expression of how Zeeland is a land of contrasts. Here lie the moods of inspiration, the desire for challenge, new prisms to look through, new objects to behold. In the galleries of Zeeland you will tingle at their collections. Some exhibition space is in the open air, forming that special mix of nature and culture which is an artistic route. It adds a dimension to the art, and to your appreciation.
At Galerie Lijn 3 in Geersdijk you’ll find some excellent modern figurative art. Created by established artists, and up-and-coming talent. In Zierikzee, Galerie Het Moment exhibits works of several regular artists of the genre of contemporary realism. Over at the Atelier de Test in Zuidzande, an enticingly broad collection of ceramics. Admirable, and affordable.
There’s always another side to art. Welcome to Tholen, and the atelier and art gallery called Atelier 28. Down in Domburg, Galerie Het Noorderlicht holds summer exhibitions featuring, amongst others, works of Jan Toorop and Jan Sluijters. And the oeuvres of today’s artists inspired by the legendary light of the region. And there’s more art of the day to be seen in the Vleeshal in Middelburg.
The time to take in art on Schouwen-Duiveland is during the Kunstschouw art show. Travel along its impressive art- and culture route to see some imposing works in the polder, like a sculpture in a garden. Or a performance on a farmyard. The show gathers the works of modern artists from home and abroad. Another art expedition is in the art-hunting Kunstspeuren event, a route embracing open ateliers in the delightful Zak van Zuid-Beveland. Eminently approachable, for both viewer and beginning artist. Art lovers will not want to miss the annual Kunstroute in Tholen.
The summer statue route in Terneuzen is of wide repute. The Westerschelde river, and the town hall of architect Jaap Bakema, form an alluring backdrop to this unique open-air happening. Another compelling outdoor exhibition is the Bunder Kunst in ’s Heer Arendskerke. There, artists have all the space they need, literally and figuratively, in a landscaped garden, between trees, hidden paths and lush herb plants.
