The clean beaches of Zeeland

Zeeland has the most beaches of all Dutch provinces – and the most Blue Flag beaches. There is always a Blue Flag beach near you. On Goeree-Overflakkee, Schouwen-Duiveland, Walcheren and Zeeland-Flanders, there’s always at least one where the proud emblem is flapping aloft, ensuring you of a clean, safe time.

Not just the beach is clean but the swimming water is good quality too. Many a Zeeland beach guarantees you this – and more. There are beach guards on duty, a First Aid post (marked with a green cross and ‘EHBO’), toilets, rubbish bins and facilities for the less able-bodied. No wonder that so many of our beaches are annually awarded the Blue Flag.
As an international environmental award, the Blue Flag is granted to beaches which have demonstrated that they are clean and safe. It aims to involve as many stakeholders as possible in ensuring cleanliness, and safe water, to enable beautiful nature and a healthy environment. Awarded annually, it assures you that the quality you expect is up-to-date. +1.

Even if you’re just visiting the beach for a day, the Blue Flag tells you that you can be sure of high-quality swimming water, and a clean beach. That you can use the toilet, that you don’t need to take your rubbish home – but you may! Above all, that there is first aid help available if you need it. On top of these services, a Blue Flag beach also provides information about the conditions of the dunes, sea and nearby woods. All in all, a Blue Flag beach is a fine place to be at the seaside. Have a great day, a Blue Flag day, and come back soon.
