The Slikken van Flakkee lie between Goedereede and Herkingen (behind Melissant). On the west side, the area is bordered by the Grevelingenmeer. The total area consists of approximately 1500 ha. dry soil, and from 1250 ha. water that is shallower than 2.5 meters. The bank length is approximately 20 km. The width of the area varies between 500 and 2500 meters.
Throughout the year, the Slikken van Flakkee Heck cattle and Fjord horses graze. The herd consists of approximately 50 mares of different ages and approximately 30 foals. Fjord horses are friendly, peaceful animals, which require little care and are excellent in this area. The heck bulls are, just like the original primeval bull, large and black, with a light stripe across the back and a white ring in the nose. The horns make them impressive appearances. About 150 Heck cattle graze on the southern Slikken of Flakkee.
