About this location

Stadhuismuseum (Town Hall Museum)

The museum has been thoroughly renovated in recent years in order to best secure its listed status. The building’s authentic character has been preserved both inside and outside. The facilities have also been updated. The museum has been fitted with new cases so that pieces can be displayed without being damaged. A lift has been added in order to provide disabled access, and the entire collection has been renewed. With the renovations completed, the building now meets all modern safety and accessibility standards.

Collection
The museum’s collection is displayed in a contemporary and appealing way. Modern technology such as multimedia, film, sound and computer animation has been added, giving the museum a modern feel. The collection focuses on three themes: the city, the land and the sea. This broad range ensures variety throughout the collection, including silverware, paintings, model ships, model buildings and curiosa. In addition, the collection includes plenty of personal, household and craft objects. Some objects, such as the 'Darkindelven’ panel and model ship of the ‘Pinas’ are counted as some of the greatest treasures of Dutch cultural heritage. The ‘Greenland kayak’ (Groenlandse kayak) is even internationally renowned as one of the oldest kayaks in the world.

Museumcafe
Visitors will find a café complete with terrace in the museum courtyard.
This area is open to the public; there’s no need to buy an entrance ticket.
You’re welcome to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, or a glass of wine at the museum café any time during the museum’s opening hours.

The courtyard is behind the museum and provides a great view of the building.
