The watchtower is located at the end of the Adriaan van de Weijdeweg in the Forestry of Burgh-Haamstede. The dune on which the tower was built, the Blinkert, is the highest dune top in the surrounding dune and forest area. It is probably also the highest point of Schouwen-Duiveland.

The watchtower was built by the Water Supply Company as a kind of crown on the construction of the water supply and pumping station.
