Flaxen village Koewacht has more than enough art to go around, on this route.
Many a street name in Koewacht village flaxes lyrical, as do the former flax-processing plants and the art along the route. There are also several memorials for victims of the last war. There is a V2-sign along the Nieuwstraat: commemorating the lone V2-missile that landed on this very spot in 1945. Now, the building is home to artist – painting behind glass and sculpting besides – Jean Kamps. The sculpture garden behind the house is worth a visit, too. The Flax Museum is at the end of the route, waiting to teach you all about flax-becoming-linen. Even now, Zeeland-Flanders grows a couple of thousand hectares of flax, the blue or white flowers gracing field upon field of it, come June.
