Sumptuous old polders and the sea just beyond: Nieuwvliet has it all. This walk leads you through the village and around. Always taking in the amazing view of farmland and homesteads, you wander along dikes, some of them grassy, others of firmer footing. The ‘Zwarte Gat’ inlet was once near Nieuwvliet, now that same area is land – won back from the sea. As you go on, you will spot several bunkers – part of the WWII Atlantikwall defensive line – formerly occupied by staff, ammo and observation posts. Down-village Nieuwvliet, pubs-a-plenty. After a restorative drink, why not pop over to the corn mill, open afternoons on Wednesday and Saturday? Wheat and spelt flour is sold in the mill shop.
